TRENCHCOAT ARMY 7"
The debut 7" by New York City's Trenchcoat Army serves you a dose of raw hardcore punk in the "loud fast rules!" tradition. The Line up features Wendy and Don, editors of the seminal New York magazine Guillotine (with roots as far back as 1982), and Jesse (formerly in NO CONTEST, went on to SOMETHING IN THE WATER) providing the vocals. It goes for that early 80's sound and actually has members that were around then. Jesse left the band shortly after this recording, which led, in part, to this release being limited to 500 copies.

Trenchcoat Army started in the summer of 1999, mainly for fun, with the intention of playing fast, raw hardcore. It grew out of a previously defunct project called No Values that existed in 1997. Wendy (bass) and Don (guitar) have a long history in New York hardcore and other forms of music on the downtown scene having run the seminal NY hardcore 'zine Guillotine since 1982. Their tenure in the NYC music scene includes stints in Antichrist Newsboys for Wendy and Butch Lust and the Hypocrites (whose claim to fame includes an appearance on the NYC: Rotten to the Core compilation LP along with the Mob and Killer Instinct) for Don.
Following an awkward period of playing without a singer, auditioning a few here and there, Jesse (formerly of No Contest) took over the vocal duties. This line up played the first group of shows at CBGB's and around New York City. A 4 track demo (recorded at the band's practice space) and live tape recorded off the board at CBGB's were quickly done, yet this line-up's sole recording session produced the now out of print debut 7", the "Quarantined" track on the Kangaroo Records compilation "This is Kangaroo Not Berkeley" with the likes of Out Cold and Dead Nation, along with half a dozen unfinished outtakes. Half the session was left unfinished due largely because the band could not get along long enough to finish. Soon after, Jesse walked out of a show, and thus quit the band. After playing a few shows with various singers, the band effectively started playing as a three piece up and down the east coast. As of the writing of this bio, Trenchcoat Army is gearing up to record a full length.
